Zakaria Aboukhlal lives on a pink cloud after his debut and goal for the national team of Morocco, but it is not all hosanna. The AZ attacker faced threats.
Aboukhlal has a Libyan father. In the North African country, they hoped the 20-year-old attacker would choose them. “They are crazy about football in Libya”, he tells FOX Sports. “It (his choice for Morocco, ed.) Really hit hard there.”
“You can’t imagine it, even threats. At one point it was enough and I locked my Instagram.” Aboukhlal was not afraid. “No, not at all. But at one point it became too negative and you want that for a moment take out.”
Despite the threats from Libya, Aboukhlal has had a dream week. On Friday evening, he made the AZ player his debut for Morocco and within five minutes it was hit in the qualifying match against Central African Republic (4-1).
Zakaria Aboukhlal has been an international from Morocco since last week, but he could also have chosen Libya. The choice for Morocco was not appreciated.
