Suspicion of Toddler Abuse: Mother Arrested, Father’s Detention Extended – Ashkelon

The investigation into the suspicion of abusing a 4-month-old toddler continues: This morning (Wednesday), the detention of the suspected father who caused the serious injuries of his toddler son was extended. The mother was also arrested today and tomorrow will be remanded in custody in the Ashkelon court.

As is known, last night the toddler was brought by his parents to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. The parents said that the baby suffocated and the father performed resuscitation attempts on him and as a result he was injured. The baby was hospitalized suffering from severe injuries and bleeding in his head, and is still hospitalized in intensive care.

Police opened an investigation after receiving the report from the hospital. Ashkelon station commander, Sen. Mike Cohen, said today: “We went into a sensitive and complex investigation into the night and we decided to arrest the father. As part of the completion of the investigation, the mother was also arrested and it was decided to arrest her as well. We are in the midst of the investigation, our main goal is to gather findings and evidence. We want to elaborate as much as possible on what happened there and understand what happened that led to the toddler’s plight. These are very serious suspicions. ”

The parents deny all the suspicions attributed to them, as the father claims that he tried to save his son’s life after it suffocated and his injuries happened as a result. Advocate Sharon Vaknin, representing the parents, told Ashkelonim: “The parents deny any and all allegations of abuse. The parents themselves are in a difficult situation because instead of being with their hospitalized son, they are in custody. ”
