Primož Roglič lost the leader’s jersey in the Vuelta a España on Sunday at the Alto de l’Angliru. The leader of Jumbo-Visma ran into problems in the final kilometers and had to give up the red to Richard Carapaz, who crossed the line ten seconds before Roglič. “I didn’t have my best day,” Roglič says afterwards.
The Slovenian, who already managed to win three stages, thought the Angliru was a steep thing. “It was too difficult a climb for a sprinter”, he says. “And I didn’t have my best day, but in the end it is good. I am happy with this result. ”
Roglič knows that an individual time trial awaits Tuesday, the day after the rest day. “We can now work towards that time trial. It will be a tough time trial, but I will do my best. Then we’ll see how we are doing after the time trial, ”said Roglič, who is now second in the standings.
Roglič’s backlog on Carapaz is ten seconds at the start of the final week. Hugh Carthy and Daniel Martin are respectively 22 and 25 seconds behind the Slovenian.
