PSV coach Roger Schmidt is satisfied with his team’s 1-0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam. The Eindhoven team started with eight other players than against PAOK Saloniki and that ultimately worked out well.
Donyell Malen and Cody Gakpo, among others, started on the bench at PSV. “It was impossible to start with these players”, Schmidt said in conversation with FOX Sports. “They have had a tough schedule in recent weeks and many players were infected with the corona virus. I have the feeling now, after six weeks with corona, that they cannot recover properly. In my opinion there was no other option.”
It took PSV a lot of effort, but Schmidt thinks it wouldn’t have mattered much with a different line-up. “Even though we started with the same line-up as on Thursday, that didn’t mean we had just won 5-0 here. A number of players played today for the first time in a few weeks, I think they did well. for me this was the perfect match. “
