Phil Spencer, of course the head of Xbox, says the game industry could be a bit more diverse – especially when it comes to leaders.
In an interview with Kotaku Xbox head Phil Spencer points out that more visible black leaders are needed to increase diversity in the gaming industry.
“One area that we really need to focus on as an industry, including my own team, is the visible leaders,” said Spencer. “Because there is a generation where that hasn’t happened.”
He also indicates that ‘black people have not been given so many opportunities to run game companies’, which results in less diverse organizations and managers. “We need a more diverse team. So I say we’re focusing on representation among managers for now.”
In June, Microsoft pledged to tackle race inequality and racism with a new plan. This includes investing in a more diverse team and partners and creating an inclusive work culture.
