Labor Conference: Negotiation Management – by Peretz

The Labor Party conference today (Sunday) authorized the chairman, Amir Peretz, to conduct negotiations with Blue and White. In an afternoon vote, it was decided to hold limited primaries in which only members of the conference and not all Labor members could vote.

Party leaders argued that the decisions would help “strengthen the party and create real opportunities for new and significant forces to join forces”.

MK Merav Michaeli expressed strong opposition to the move, which gives Chairman Peretz much power. At the end of the vote, MK Michaeli called on members and party members to “wait for the court to decide on the constitutionality of the vote.” The battle is not over yet. The results of the vote show just how good it is for a cat to take the cream. ”

She added: “A small group, a significant part of which is appointed by the chairman, authorizes him to act contrary to the good of the party, in complete opposition to the will of the members and members of the party, in an unconstitutional and inappropriate manner. This democracy is really not. Peretz and Shmuli are trying to turn the Labor Party into the pocket money with which they will buy themselves a work arrangement for the next elections. We will meet in court, and it is certain that it will decide that justice is with us and this scandalous vote will be canceled. Until then, I will continue the struggle. “

In a tweet posted tonight on Twitter, MK Michaeli wrote: “The court said today explicitly that a substantive hearing is needed on our just petition. This hearing will take place soon and I am sure the court will rule in our favor. Do not be discouraged, we can and can still win. And the truth is that we are already winning and winning, because we are on the right side of politics, of history, of truth. “

According to the results of the vote, 1,639 (69%) of the conference members supported the transfer of authority to Peretz to negotiate with Blue and White and other political bodies. 722 conference members opposed (30%), and 21 abstained (1%).

In addition, 1,566 members of the Labor Conference (66%) voted in favor of transferring the primaries to the party leadership and the Knesset to the conference. 781 opposed (33%), and 33 abstained (1%).

Following the vote, MK Peretz said: “I thank the Labor Party delegates for expressing confidence in my proposal. This is the need of the hour, together we will bring new forces to the party and march it back to its natural place in the Israeli public. I will act with the good of the state and the party before my eyes, in the values of the labor movement of social justice and the pursuit of peace. ”

The party’s secretary general, Eran Hermoni: “I would like to thank the supervisory committee composed of the party’s headquarters, Roi Schindler, the chairman of the constitution committee, Adv. Shuli Eshbol, the party’s spokesman, Adv. Omri Segev and Adv. Shai Standard. The participation of members and members of the conference is an important and encouraging thing. “This is not the first time we have been required and able to conduct a democratic and dignified vote at the party conference, which is held remotely due to the limitations of the Corona, and while preserving the important democratic principles of the party.”
