The facts took place on Wednesday afternoon at the McDonalds on the Grote Markt. The teenager with Moroccan roots was told by some bystanders that he had to wear his mouth mask. He did not like this, which led to a discussion and the police had to come to the scene. One of the officers received a headbutt from the young man, which made him incapacitated for work.

The young man was put in a combi to transfer to the police cell. The peace did not return afterwards, because fifteen other persons, family of the perpetrator, turned against the police and tried to free the teenager from the combi. Mayor D’Haese thinks it is a strong signal that the boy was locked up. “These kinds of facts certainly do not belong here, I also imagined the facts as a civil party,” it sounds.
