Ritzau, Denmark’s largest news agency, has been down for two days due to an attack by hackers. Yesterday, the company discovered that ransomware had been posted. That is software that locks your system. The lock only comes off when you pay a ransom, and Ritzau refuses.
Ritzau provides information to practically all Danish media. In recent days, the news agency has been operating via an emergency system. Ritzau has hired an outside security company and expects to be able to return to normal operations on Thursday at the earliest.
It is unclear who is behind the attack. It is also not known how much the hackers demand as ransom.
