Despite the coronavirus, US President Donald Trump is calling on the American people to gather over Thanksgiving. Experts fear that the national holiday will speed up the circulation of the virus among the population.
Although federal public health officials and future President Joe Biden explicitly warn against it, US President Donald Trump called on the people to gather over Thanksgiving. “I encourage all Americans to gather at places of worship to give thanks to God,” said Donald Trump in a message spread through his press service.
Thanksgiving, however, could make the bad Covid-19 situation in the United States worse. Public health experts fear that the public holiday on November 26 may actually cause the virus to circulate even faster among the population. In addition, the experts do not recommend non-essential travel and Thanksgiving family gatherings.
Future President Joe Biden also gave a Thanksgiving speech on Wednesday. “This year, because we care so much about each other, we need to keep our distance from each other,” said Biden.
In the United States, more than 261,000 people have now died from covid-19. More than 12.7 million people are infected with the virus, and the United States has set several new daily hospital admissions records.
