The average number of hospital admissions per day, measured over a period of seven days, has fallen for the first time since the beginning of September. This is evident from preliminary figures from health institute Sciensano on Sunday.
During the past week, an average of 618 people with COVID-19 were admitted to hospital every day, a decrease of 5 percent from a week earlier. A total of 6,893 people with the disease are now in hospital, also a decrease of 5 percent. The number of people with the coronavirus in intensive care units has remained stable at 1,464 patients.
Between October 29 and November 4, 10,512 people tested positive for the coronavirus. That is a decrease of 35 percent compared to a week earlier. In total, Belgium now has nearly half a million corona infections since the start of the pandemic.
COVID-19 has meanwhile also caused 12,907 fatalities in our country, an increase of 199 victims compared to figures published on Saturday. On average, 173 people per day died from a coronavirus infection in the past week, an increase of 66 percent from the previous week.
