Alex Dowsett has been forced to postpone his attack on the world hour record. The corona virus has been diagnosed with the British rider of Israel Start-Up Nation.
It is the UCI international cycling union that announced the news about the record attempt, which should have taken place on Saturday 12 December. “I am very disappointed that the attempt cannot go ahead as planned, but my health is paramount,” Dowsett said through the union. “I am really looking forward to attacking the record in 2021 with the same intentions. We want to announce a date for 2021 as soon as possible. ”
The British time trial specialist announced earlier this month that he would again attack the hour record. In 2015, he held the record for a short time, before Bradley Wiggins dethroned him 36 days later. “In 2015 I felt afterwards that I had even more in the tank”, he said earlier. “I want to see what I am capable of. But I realize that the bar is set extremely high this time. ”
The world hour record is currently held by Victor Campenaerts, who reached 55.089 kilometers in Mexico last year.
Really disappointed to have to postpone the hour record attempt. Shortly after we announced the attempt I had some symptoms of Cov & a test result came back positive. My focus now is recovery, isolation & my health. Thanks to everyone for their support, we’ll be back stronger 💪 pic.twitter.com/4MIuld25xA
