12:54 – In the run-up to the Champions League match against FC Midtjylland, Ajax has violated one of the corona regulations drawn up by UEFA. The Danish newspaper wrote that Extra Bladet at least. With this, the Amsterdam club exposed its own players and those of FC Midtjylland to the risk of contamination.
What’s up with that? Two weeks ago, Ajax was startled by no fewer than eleven positive corona tests in the run-up to the group match against FC Midtjylland. André Onana, Dusan Tadic, Ryan Gravenberch and Davy Klaassen, among others, did not board the plane that brought the Amsterdam selection to Denmark. They were not allowed to fly to Denmark by the Danish authorities as they could not provide a negative corona test up to 72 hours old.
Later that Monday, Onana, Tadic, Gravenberch and Zakaria Labyad flew to Denmark after all. They boarded a regular KLM flight, which landed in Billund. According to the Danish newspaper, Ajax thus broke the UEFA protocol. Players are only allowed to travel to an away match in the Champions League with a private plane. Klaassen and Maarten Stekelenburg, who arrived a day later, flew with a private plane after the Ajax selection.
Violation of the protocol can lead to a disciplinary case, UEFA confirms to the Danish newspaper. Ajax therefore seems to fear a penalty.
