Spotify now lets you search for lyrics

Something with super glue, but what was it exactly? Can’t you find the name or artist of a song, but only a part of the lyrics? Usually you can go to Google, but Spotify naturally prefers that you stay in that app. More convenient, because you can then play the song immediately. That is why Spotify comes with a new option: searching by lyrics. This way you can quickly find within Spotify that the song Outside of 6LACK is what you are looking for.

Apple was before

Does it sound familiar, as if it isn’t actually new at all? Then you are not far off. It is new for the Scandinavian music streaming company, but if you are an iPhone owner, you probably already know this option from Apple Music. That has really been possible at Apple for years. A great option, especially if you don’t hear the music and Shazam can’t help you out.

It is striking that Spotify is only now coming up with this, because it does have a special bond with lyrics. For example, there is an integration with Genius that gives you the lyrics and more background information about a song for years while you play it. Not all songs have this feature, but quite a few. You can see it by tapping the ‘Now playing’ bar at the bottom of the screen and scrolling down. You may also have to click on the album cover in the menu on the side. At the moment this is only available for English songs.

Look up lyrics on Spotify

Whether the possibility to search for lyrics in the search bar also only applies to English songs or also Dutch songs, that is well known. Good news: you can also find Dutch music on Spotify that way. If a song is found based on lyrics, you can see it in the search results. Namely, that number is displayed with ‘Lyrics agreement’.

The new option of the music streaming service is now being rolled out on both iOS and Android devices.
