Goalkeeper Ahmad Akariya is charged with murder. The 23-year-old Akriya also played in the 2018/19 season for Maccabi Achi Nazareth from the national league and last season for Hapoel Kfar Kana and Bnei Zelfa, a season during which he was also selected as the outstanding goalkeeper in the northern district, but is now expected to be imprisoned after being murdered by Ahmad Ryan, 64, from the village of Kabul.
The police statement read: “Investigators from the Central Unit of the Northern District Police completed the investigation into the murder of the late Ahmad Ryan, 64, a resident of Kabul, on the afternoon of August 23, 2020. Today, the Haifa District Attorney’s Office filed an indictment against a 24-year-old resident of the village for murder. “
The police statement added: “The background to the murder is an ongoing conflict that exists in the village of Kabul between two families and that erupted again after months of silence. On Sunday afternoon (23.8.20), a call was received at the Israel Police Hotline 100 about a man who was moderately injured and two children (3,8) who were lightly injured by gunfire fired at a house in the village.
“Many police forces were rushed to the scene and while they were investigating the incident, another shooting incident was reported in the village where a man in the 60s was seriously injured and was taken to Nahariya Hospital. Additional police investigators were rushed to the scene to intensify treatment at both arenas and police forces were deployed in the village to prevent further escalation of the conflict. Around 20:00 a message was received that the doctors had been forced to determine the death of the seriously injured and the entire investigation was assigned to the homicide department in the central unit.
In a complex investigation of the collection of findings using advanced technological means, investigators from the Central Unit succeeded in constructing a mosaic of evidence from which it emerged that the defendant, in response to the shooting at the grandfather and two granddaughters, arrived at the rival family’s business. From him the victim was wounded. The defendant fled the scene while in the vehicle with other relatives of his. During the escape, he continued firing at two other businesses, also owned by the rival family. “
The police further confirmed that “police investigators were able to locate the vehicle with which the defendant and his relatives fled, parked in the village far from the residence of the vehicle owner. And later, after a few days, the owner of the vehicle turned himself in while the defendant, his accomplices, fled to the territories to the Hebron area. They were located after about two weeks and during a special activity in the Palestinian Authority, the man was arrested and hosted by the defendant and his accomplices. “Following the arrest, the suspects tried to flee back to Israel and were arrested while driving a vehicle on Road 6. A serious indictment against the defendant is accompanied by a request for detention until the end of the proceedings, through attorney Muhammad Mula.”
