Google Nest Audio officially presented
The tech company announced the successor to the Google Home at a digital event. The Nest Audio has a fresh design, can be louder than its predecessor and is 50 euros cheaper when introduced. The smart speaker is also equipped with the Google Assistant.
Nest Audio at a glance:
- Successor to Google Home speaker from 2016
- Richer and fuller sound
- Can handle other smart home devices
- Listens to the Google Assistant
- Available in two colors: chalk and charcoal
- Recommended retail price of 99.99 euros
Fuller and richer sound
As you may expect based on the name, the Google Nest Audio focuses on sound quality. In their own words, the speaker can be 75 percent louder than its predecessor and the bass is 50 percent more powerful. You can operate the speaker with your voice, but there are also some touch-sensitive buttons on top.
In addition, the speaker is ‘smart’ because it knows what you are playing at that moment and adjusts the audio settings accordingly. The Nest Audio therefore switches sound settings when you switch from a Spotify song to a podcast. It is also possible to link two Nest Audio speakers together for stereo sound.
Talk to your speaker
The Google Home successor is of course equipped with the Google Assistant so that you can talk to the speaker. For example, say “Hey Google, is it going to rain today?” to know whether or not you can leave the umbrella at home. Thanks to the voice assistant, you can also operate your smart home and control the heating or dim Philips Hue lights.
Don’t like the idea of talking to Nest Audio? On the back is a switch to turn off the microphones (3 in total). When the four lights on the front turn orange, the Nest Audio is listening not. Speaking of that housing, according to Google, the Nest Audio is largely made from recycled material.
Purchase and availability
The Nest Audio can be pre-ordered immediately at all known points of sale. The smart Google speaker costs 99.99 euros and will be delivered from 15 October.
