Severe tragedy: The late Haim Yaakov China Shalom, a 21-year-old resident of Beitar Illit, was killed today (Wednesday) while working on renovations to a third-floor apartment on Zvi Pinkas Street in Afula – after the concrete ceiling in the apartment, which was under renovation, collapsed on him.

Rescuers who were called to the scene provided him with primary medical care and then evacuated him to the Valley Hospital in the city, while performing resuscitation operations.

To the chagrin of his family and friends, however, the doctors had no choice but to determine his death.

His father, Rabbi Yoel Sin Shalom, is a well-known contractor in the construction industry, and a well-known figure in Beitar Illit.

The late Haim Yaakov studied in the Talmud Torah “Long Live Reuben” in Beitar. After enlisting in the army and completing his service, he entered the construction industry.

Gabay and members of the Shalom Rav community on Hill B in Beitar Illit, to which the late deceased belonged, issued a statement of condolence:

We are hurting and grieving together with the devoted and dear family – the people of kindness in their bodies and in particular Rabbi Yoel Sin Shalom HiU with the passing of his righteous son Chaim Yaakov zl.

“Our sincere condolences to the honorable family out of prayer and hope that you will not know sorrow and will not add to Daba any more.”

MDA paramedics Elad Cohen and Chen Yasnitz spoke about the disaster: He was unconscious and suffered extensive trauma from a severe systemic.

“Together with the workers, we rescued him and began to provide him with advanced medical care, which included massages, resuscitation and medication, we took him to an intensive care unit and evacuated him to the hospital while continuing to perform resuscitation operations.”

The police said: Israeli police officers arrived at the scene and opened an investigation in cooperation with a work accident investigator from the Ministry of Labor and Welfare.
