At the end of a nightly and heated debate in the second and third readings, the Knesset plenum approved the bill restricting demonstrations during a full closure.
The bill authorizes the government to declare a special state of emergency during which demonstrations over a thousand meters will be banned and will take place in capsules of 30 participants during the closure period.
46 Knesset members voted in favor, while 38 voted against, including Knesset members White Brush Miki Haimovich and Ram Shefa, contrary to their party’s position.
Yesterday, the Constitution Committee approved the bill for a second and third reading. Earlier, by order of the Prime Minister’s Office, Likud members withdrew their reservations about the law, after threatening in blue and white that if the Likud did not do so, they would not allow the law to pass in the Knesset today. The reservations that interfered with blue and white were those that demanded that demonstrations be restricted even during a period of full closure.
Prior to the debate on the bill to limit demonstrations, the Knesset plenum approved increasing the budget for this year by NIS 2.5 billion, in order to finance the economic plan due to the corona crisis. 66 MKs supported, and 19 opposed.
