The GGDs have reported 19,326 new positive corona tests to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) since Tuesday last week. That is 43 percent more than last week (13,471). The number of newly admitted corona patients has tripled compared to a week earlier (33) to 102.

Due to the increasing number of infections and overflowing hospitals, the cabinet announced a series of national measures on Monday evening.

The number of positive tests last week is more than five times more than the reports in the last week of August (3,588), the RIVM reports.

A total of 206,670 people had themselves tested last week, which is 14,415 more than last week (192,255).

Not only the absolute number of new positive tests is going up, but also the percentage of people who test positive in the test street has risen from 6.1 to 7.4 percent in the past week.

More people hospitalized

Over the same period, 244 people were admitted to hospitals for COVID-19. Last week there were 152.

102 confirmed COVID-19 patients have been reported dead in the past seven days, according to the RIVM. Last week there were 33.

Not everyone can be tested

The patients reported by RIVM were not all tested positive, admitted or died in the past week. Some patients are reported later, the institute emphasizes.

The number of people infected with the COVID-19 virus in the Netherlands is also probably higher than the figures of the institute show, because not everyone is tested.
