New national corona rules regarding group size, which the cabinet announced Monday evening, do not apply to theme parks. For outdoor activities, a maximum of 40 people are allowed to gather, indoors a maximum of thirty. However, nothing will change for amusement parks, fairs and zoos for the time being.

These places have been designated by the cabinet as transfer locations. “These are places where people simply don’t sit still, but move”Prime Minister Mark Rutte explained during a press conference. “The maximums of thirty and forty do not apply there, because that would lead to bizarre situations.”

Rutte used the largest amusement park in the Benelux as an example. “Thirty people in the Rijksmuseum or forty in Efteling is of course quite absurd.” Locations such as amusement parks determine in consultation with the safety region how many visitors may be allowed. It must be possible to keep a distance of 1.5 meters between groups at all times to prevent corona infections.

Extremely
For Dutch amusement parks, in most cases, a maximum of 50 percent of the maximum capacity is currently used. This does not mean that parks automatically only achieve half the usual number of visitors: the maximum capacity is normally only actually achieved on extreme peak days.
