Henk Markerink, director of the Johan Cruijff ArenA, is disappointed by the fact that no spectators are allowed to be present in the stadium for at least the next three weeks. He understands, but it feels strange after previous compliments for the state of affairs.
‘That creates a very mixed feeling. It concerns an order in council, which will shave the whole of the Netherlands together, ‘Markerink said in conversation with The Telegraph. “The corona situation is again so serious that everyone has to comply with it.”
“That is understandable, but annoying for us, because the Johan Cruijff ArenA and Ajax have received compliments from the security region, because the matches here were very orderly and safe”, the director continues. “Unfortunately, we are snowing under the rest.”
Mark Koevermans, director at Feyenoord, has also responded. The club was trying to get a better position for the rest of Dutch professional football. ‘The government itself also confirms that outside is safer than inside. Precisely to demonstrate this definitively, in the interest of football as a whole, but certainly also of all kinds of other outdoor events, we had just started a large-scale survey among our visitors with Erasmus MC and Casper van Eijck. That too comes to a standstill immediately. ‘
