Germany further tightened corona measures in the country on Tuesday. In areas with high levels of infection, private parties and family gatherings are limited to a maximum of 50 people. A national lockdown must be prevented at all costs, said Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The new measure applies in areas where there are more than 35 corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants, including Berlin. With more than 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, the reins are tightened even more: the maximum group size in the private sphere is then adjusted to 10 and in public to 25.
“We want to deploy regionally, specifically and purposefully, instead of locking up the entire country again,” Merkel said.
The contamination figures are not increasing to a large extent in all areas in Germany. The so-called hotspot strategy must ensure that the negative consequences for the economy are limited as much as possible.
Fine for falsifying personal data in the catering industry
The government also announced that it would impose a fine of at least 50 euros for persons who leave falsified personal data behind during a catering visit. Leaving personal data behind after a catering visit is mandatory in Germany: in this way, the persons concerned can be more easily informed of an infection.
Although a number of measures may differ per state, it is still the case across the country that a distance of 1.5 meters must be kept. It is also compulsory to wear mouth masks in public transport and in shops.

Merkel fears an increasing number of infections
Germany got through the summer relatively well given the number of corona infections, Merkel said. In recent weeks, however, the daily number of new infections in the country has shown an upward trend. The country with 83 million inhabitants has registered up to 2,400 new infections per day in recent days. At the end of July, that number was about three hundred.
If this trend continues, Merkel warned Tuesday, the number of daily infections in December could rise to 19,200.
