“We have a higher occupancy rate than usual, around 95%,” said Dr. Hoshen. “The effort is definitely increasing. The number of difficult patients has increased and so has the number of respirators, and we feel the load here. Regarding the age of the patients, the director of the corona department said: “Many of the patients are aged 70-60 or older, and a minority are younger than that. We see difficult and complex patients.”

Dr. Choshen agrees that an unusual increase has been felt in recent days. “Something has definitely happened,” he said. “In the last 5-4 days, occupancy here has risen. We are also seeing an increase in the number of applicants and are really required to fight for the evacuation and release of patients to the various frameworks, to hotels. “We are doing intensive work with the Home Front Command and the Ministry of Health’s paramedics, and we are really fighting for releases to make room for the next patients who arrive.”

What will you do if more corona patients arrive?

“One of the reasons I’m here at the moment is to release more patients to different non – hospital settings, to make room. In addition, another corona ward will open in the coming days. Just a few days ago we turned our intensive care unit into a corona intensive care unit containing approx. “18 beds, and we plan to open another ward in the next two weeks, so the hospital is definitely preparing for the increase in Corona patients’ occupancy.”

What about the other patients?

“This is a very big challenge that we face. Our goal and policy is to try and continue to run all the non-elective and non-elective activities of the hospital. As long as we are able to give this service we will provide it. Tomorrow morning we will see how we deal, but right now we Definitely prepared. “
