As in all the world also celebrated Father’s Day in Turkey, traditionally the third Sunday of June is celebrated every week of the month. In line with this information, Father’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday, June 21, 2020 this year.
WHAT IS FATHER’S DAY?
Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of an American Civil War veteran, thought that fathers, like Mother’s Day, should have a day. Dodd’s father raised his six children alone in the absence of their mother. He started working to proclaim the Father’s Day, June 5, which was his father’s birthday, but these efforts could not reach that date, and celebrations were postponed to the third Sunday of June.
That’s why Father’s Day is celebrated in June. Father’s Day was celebrated for the first time on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. In 1924, President of the United States Calvin Coolidge supported the celebrations; but it has not officially declared Father’s Day. In 1966, Lyndon Johnson, the president of that period, issued a statement that announced that every year the third market of June will be celebrated as Father’s Day. In 1972, Father’s Day was legally declared an official holiday in the USA, with the signature of President Richard Nixon.
