12 year old unvaccinated flu in Puglia: “It’s an epidemic”


In Puglia the epidemic threshold of influenza has been exceeded and there is the first serious case of the season: a 12-year-old boy, hospitalized, not vaccinated and with other pathologies.According to Influnet data, published by the Ministry of Health, the incidence of influenza in Puglia has reached 5 cases per thousand patients, a total of just over 90 thousand Apulians who have fallen ill since November to today. The peak is expected between late January and early February. In the second week of 2020 there was a sharp increase in the number of cases of flu-like syndrome especially in young adults and children under five years of age.
In the age group 0-4 years the incidence is equal to 13.78 cases per thousand patients (the Italian average is lower, equal to 10.7 cases per thousand patients), in the age group 5-14 years to 10, 10 (Italian average 6.81), in the 15-64 age group at 4.89 and between individuals aged 65 and over at 2.26 cases per thousand assisted.
