Loris Baz at the start since the first Superbike round in 2020. Ten Kate Yamaha renews its confidence in the French driver for next season.
Without saddle at the beginning of 2019, confirmed in Ten Kate Yamaha in 2020. Loris Baz will be at the start next year in the World Superbike Championship. The former MotoGP rider, back in 2018 in the series derivatives championship, will start again with the Dutch team, in addition to a motorcycle, the Yamaha YZF-R1, with which he achieved noticeable results in this season started after five rounds. A new opportunity to play a complete year, aiming to improve what has been achieved so far.
A complicated story is that of the spallungone (he is 1.93 high) of Sallanches, who manages to secure a permanent position for next season after a start in 2019 that saw him stand still, without a team. The Superbike debut dates back to 2012 with Kawasaki Racing Team, in which he remained until 2014. In this time frame he won two wins and another 12 podium finishes. From 2015 to 2017 he moved to MotoGP, closing twice at the foot of the podium, before returning to compete in the series derivatives. Last year there was an appearance in MotoGP to replace the injured Pol Espargaro in KTM. Bad luck has it that it was the stage at Silverstone, canceled due to bad weather.
The Superbike return, along with BMW, has always seen him in the points, except on two occasions. Of these, 13 top ten, with two sixth places as best results. As mentioned, in 2019 he initially stayed on foot, until Ten Kate Yamaha gave him the opportunity to return to action. Many top ten placements, some close to the podium, which convinced the Dutch structure to renew the French driver's confidence. A team that boasts 85 podiums in its history, of which 42 are successes, in addition to a world title.
"I can't wait to start again" he has declared Loris Baz, happy about this new opportunity. "2019 was special, but also difficult. I had to learn the bike every weekend without having done any tests, except for two days in the middle of the season. Despite everything we did great things together. We have so many things to try: the bike can improve a lot, so much so that we constantly struggle for the top positions. 2020 will be an exciting season. "
