Yes to the new stadium, but no real estate development that exceeds the rules established by the Plan of Government of the territory that has recently approved the City Council. This in summary the position of the council of the Municipality of Milan that on Friday morning gave a positive opinion of public interest, with these conditions, to the Inter and Milan project to build a new stadium.
Plans for the new San Siro stadium
«On the stadium issue we have always moved with transparency and consistency – the mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, writes in a note -. We immediately said that we would have involved the City Council first and, only after having had the opinion of those who represent the citizens, we would have assumed, as mayor and councilor, the responsibility to decide how to proceed ».
«In light of the technical and political progress made so far – continues Sala -, the council held today has approved the public interest in the Milan AC and Inter FC proposal on the stadium, but any other works (for example commercial spaces, offices, hotels) will be authorized only to the extent envisaged by the current Plan Government of the Territory of the Municipality of Milan. The construction of a new sports facility has, however, opened the question on the future of San Siro. We reiterate our desire to re-implement it and therefore we are ready to evaluate solutions that do not provide for the renunciation of the current plant, but rather its regeneration through other functions ".
