In recent weeks, both Honda and Marc Marquez have expressed the mutual desire to extend the relationship expiring at the end of 2020. In the paddock there is a whisper of a request for 20 million per year by the Spanish, a record engagement for the eight-time world champion. During an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport on the occasion of Eicma, the winner of the 2019 World Cup admitted that the negotiations have already begun: "In the end it's not a secret, you always start talking early and logically I've already had contact with Honda. I ask for things, priorities are sporting, then the rest helps. The economic aspect is not the priority, the money logically helps, but my 100% priority is the sports aspect. If we come to an agreement where they give me everything and I am convinced of the project, in the end my priority is Honda".
As mentioned by Emilio Alzamora, his manager, Marquez is courted by Ducati. The centaur of Cervera has not denied: "It is logical, they also admitted it publicly. The houses are looking for you, I must also listen out of respect. It is the way of knowing what the other party thinks. The other factories look for those who have won or who are second or third, to try to win with them. But for the moment the priority is Honda, but they have to give everything they ask".
However, Marquez made it clear that he enjoyed working with the Japanese team: "Honda is a difficult bike, I don't know if it's the best, but it is said that the neighbor's garden is always greener. Surely even Yamaha, Ducati and Suzuki have some flaws, but with this bike we are winning and doing great things. It's not just the bike, but the project, the team and the philosophy that I really like", Concluded the 26 year old Catalan.
