Minister Franceschini restores 25 million for the Judaism museum in Ferrara

FERRARA – Canceled by the previous government, the funding for Meis, the museum of Judaism of Ferrara, was restored by the Mibact today with 25 million euros: culture minister Dario Franceschini announces it. "We owe it to Liliana Segre – she says – to her personally and to what she represents. Knowledge is the best antidote against hatred and intolerance".It was Liliana Segre herself, last spring, the first signatory of an urgent question to the government Conte 1, in which it was emphasized that the museum is a work of "international value" in reference to the history and presence of Jews in our country, "although the Government does not want to recognize it or even wants to conceal it". The then minister Alberto Bonisoli had replied by accusing the then center-left council of Ferrara of "instrumentalization": This money – it is learned from sources from the Collegio Romano – are not of the Mibac and would have been lost. Instead the minister has guaranteed that when it will be possible to open a construction site, and this will happen only in concomitance with the end of the works of the second lot that are about to begin, the money will be there and the announcement will start ".

Franceschini today remembers how "The National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Holocaust was established by a law by the Parliament in 2003. During the last government the funding of 25 million euros necessary for the completion of the Museum had been missed. But an idea so important can not be left in the middle here is that through a reshaping of the Funds for Development and Cohesion of the Ministry, we have recovered the financing that had been canceled ".
