Certainly not a Pinocchio in sauce Gomorrah, but a real family film with lots of laughter and happy endings. Matteo Garrone speaks for the first time of his new work (in theaters since December 19) and does so in a long interview with Giuseppe Videtti on Friday on newsstands tomorrow. "Of course," says the Roman director, "there are also dark, hallucinatory and disturbing moments, but fundamentally it is a story written to entertain children, and therefore amusing."The protagonist is a child, the "bionic" Federico Ielapi, while the role of Geppetto is by Roberto Benigni. When he proposed the part Garrone showed him his picture with a beard and an aged face. "Roberto was traumatized by that image, also because he had never changed his appearance so dramatically. "He's my grandfather!" He exclaimed. Then I believe that, with a good dose of recklessness, he decided to trust me, the project ». Among the features of the film is that of not having distorted or updated the novel. «Many spectators» the director smiles «they will exclaim: but look how many things Garrone has invented! In reality it is all in the text, which too often has been overlooked ». After all, Collodi's book, as the writer Eraldo Affinati explains in the article that closes the cover service, is still a powerful allegory of us Italians.
Still on Friday the story in exclusive of the new archive (soon online) dedicated to Bernardo Bertolucci one year after his death. His wife Claire opened the drawers with the memories of the great director to Simonetta Fiori, including an unpublished and never sent letter to Giulietta Masina written immediately after Federico Fellini's death. And at the center of the weekly is a 24-page Special dedicated to travel. The routes? Inspired by the most popular TV series, from Downton Abbey to Rocco Schiavone.
