In the light of the draw and the opponents the question arises: where can Berrettini arrive? Difficult to assume a semi-final. Against Dominic Thiem there may be battle – as the success of blue in Shanghai and the hard-fought Vienna semi-final where the Austrian prevailed – but against the Serbian and Federer the possibilities are really minimal. There is no precedent between Berrettini and Djokovic while against the Swiss (recordman of the event with six triumphs) the only challenge ended in 74 minutes and with 6-1 6-2 6-2 in favor of Federer. Beyond the hopes of passing the round it will be important for Berrettini to get at least one victory, gaining confidence with a review that could see the blue protagonist in the years to come. Maybe together with the Jannik Sinner victorious at the Next Generation Finals in Milan.
15.00 on Sunday 10 November 2019, O2 Arena in London. This will be the moment of the debut at ATP Finals of Matteo Berrettini. For the Roman the opponent could not be the most difficult: the five-time tournament champion Novak Djokovic. The one against the Serb represents the umpteenth obligatory step of a memorable year, composed of "first times" for the 23-year-old blue: the first Slam semifinal in New York, the first 1000 semi-final in Shanghai, the first time in the top 10, the first title on grass in Stuttgart. In addition to Djokovic, in front of Berrettini (first Italian at the Finals 41 years after Barazzutti) in the group Borg there will also be Dominic Thiem is Roger Federer. Not the best draw possible therefore, considering above all that in the other group, called Agassi, Nadal will be the protagonists with the usual physical problems, Zverev, Tsitsipas is Medvedev. Opponents certainly difficult but against which Berrettini could, perhaps, have some more chances to reach the semifinals.
