(Press Review) – The possibility of Renault leaving Formula 1 at the end of the season emerged in the paddock of the United States Grand Prix. And the statements of Helmut Marko in recent days have not been random: "In that case, I think the team would immediately be bought by someone". According to reports from AutoBild, there would indeed be Dmitry Mazepin ready to take over the stable, with the blessing of FIA and Liberty Media.
"Can Renault switch off at the end of the year? AutoBild has learned that this scenario has already been discussed in Austin between the Federation and Liberty Media. (…) The new Renault number one, Clotilde Delbos (…) is considered an opponent in the paddock for the continuation of the French commitment in Formula 1. Recently he admitted that the F1 team was under scrutiny. But fear has spread in Austin that the possible farewell could be anticipated compared to the start of the new Concorde Agreement in 2021. An early exit at the end of 2019 would leave two riders of the caliber of Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo without a contract. (…) One of the candidates for the team's acquisition would be Russian billionaire Dmitry Mazepin. It is no secret that he is trying to acquire a team to run his son Nikita, currently engaged in F2."
