In the four-year development plan presented by Alfa Romeo on 1 June 2018 there were seven models, which should have arrived between 2018 and 2022, including the upgrade of the Stelvio, Giulietta and Giulia, two SUVs and two sports cars, the GTV and the 6C.
Today it seems that little remains of that plan however, in the last FCA quarterly report we see that by 2022 the new Stelvio and Giulia and the Tonale compact suv will be launched, which we saw last March at the Geneva Motor Show, as well as a smaller SUV belonging to the segment B.
In 2021 just Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio will be renewed and will be the first models to be launched, in the same year it will finally arrive on the market too Alfa Romeo Tonale, for the small suv instead we will have to wait until 2022. The latter will also have a 100% version power, while Tonale will be offered on the market with a system hybrid.
What we know today of new business plan del Biscione is that the 700 horsepower hybrid supercar will not be produced, nor the new Giulietta and large suv. The 8C had been the spearhead of the industrial plan, Marchionne had kept it in store for all the fans of the brand, it was the promise of return in the super sports cars, but unfortunately it will not be maintained.
In addition to the Alfa Romeo 8C we have all been waiting for other victims of the industrial plan, which was therefore reduced. We will not even see the Giulietta restyling scheduled for 2022, and with it not even the GTV, sports coupe on a Giulia basis. The last model that will never arrive in the future, unless some twists occur, is the segment E suv, designed to compete with the BMW X5, Mercedel GLE and Audi Q7. So the Stelvio will remain the largest high wheeled car in the Alfa.
But of course we also take a look at the models that have been confirmed and to the new entries, in addition to the eliminations just mentioned. In Pomigliano d'Arco the production of the Alfa Romeo Tonale suv is confirmed, which will begin to be sold at the end of 2020. By the end of the year, instead, we will already see the restyling of Giulia and Stelvio.
Nothing is known yet precisely on the small suv, scheduled for 2021 also in electric version. The merger with Psa could bring important news, starting from the platforms used. Psa could in fact offer the CMP, the same used for Peugeot 208, Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback.
