Agrigento, connected families (s): successful meeting with the parents of the Pastoral Mater Misericordiae | Country Italy Press

Agrigento – The meeting on the theme “Connected or disconnected families? Social, media & family ”, promoted by the pastoral care of the Mater Parish Unit Misericordiae.

The works were introduced by the parish priest Don Giuseppe Veneziano who, as a good landlord, has created a climate of attention towards the delicate issue of creating authentic relationships. Spouses Gerlando Picone and Giovanna Cavaleri, heads of families, coordinated the meeting. Despite the bad weather, the room was full of families that followed with great interest the reports of the sociologist and communications professor of the University of Messina, Francesco Pira, and of the judge of the ecclesiastical court of Agrigento, Don Mimmo Zambito.

In his brilliant report, the prof. Francesco Pira stressed the great responsibility of parents in the educational role and how the means and technologies are not per se negative but need awareness in their use. "Very often we ask our children where they are physically … But we absolutely cannot find out in virtual life where they are and with whom they are. The emotions need to be managed, "said the sociologist.

Interesting and at times disturbing are the provocations launched also through different videos, which have shown what impact technologies have on young people … and how fragile the role of parents who powerlessly witness the dominance of social media.

Don Mimmo Zambito focused on how essential the role of the family and in particular of spouses is in this intrusive presence of social media. The search for authentic values that become Kerigma. announcement of the presence of Christ in today. The family becomes the solution and the privileged way for a network of beautiful, true relationships in which the sociality is fully lived, in the authentic acceptance of the other, as it is in reality, including the fragility and imperfections. A sparkling debate followed that involved the entire assembly.

The meeting had absolutely no pretension to solve any problem, but it raised many questions for parents on the awareness of being more and more credible adults, once again showing the social role of the Church attentive to the signs of the times.
