A great day in Berlin

Today in Berlin, Germany, it is a day of ceremonies and celebrations for the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Wall that for two decades divided the city, and also the world, in two. The Wall was built in August 1961 and began to fall on November 9th 1989, one of the most important days of the 20th century. To commemorate that day in Berlin there were speeches by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel. The demonstrators were also attended by the heads of state of Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, countries that were part of the Soviet bloc. From 18.00 a cross-media show was organized near the Brandenburg Gate, with music, videos, testimonials and plays of light. Even before, however, throughout the day, many people had remembered that day – in organized moments but also with spontaneous gestures – in particular in some parts of the city where there are still pieces of the Wall.
