After the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup 2019, the world ranking has in fact aligned itself with the hierarchies of the Cup. In the first four places there will be the semi-finalists of the tournament: All Blacks, England, Wales and South Africa. England has in fact risen to second place behind New Zealand given the wide victory against Australia, while South Africa has also taken advantage of the Irish defeat to overcome them and distance them. Despite the defeat, however, France came back ahead of Japan in seventh place.
If England were to win in the semifinals against New Zealand, with any score, it would rise to the top of the world rankings. Any score coming out of the semi-finals, however, will not change the current Top 4.
Italy is obviously stopped in 12th place, behind the Fiji more than four points and in front of the Tonga of six tenths.
