Guido Pella of Argentina, 20th in the world and seeded N.5, qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Open, the ATP tournament in Antwerp, beating South Korean Soonwoo Kwon (ATP 88) 7-5, 7-5 in the second round of this hard surface event with 635,750 euros, Wednesday at the Lotto Arena. Pella will face in the quarterfinals the winner of the match between David Goffin (ATP 14 / N.2) and the Frenchman Ugo Humbert (ATP 70), scheduled for Thursday.
Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas (ATP 45), seeded N.8, advanced to the second round following a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bolivian Hugo Dellien (ATP 79).
Cuevas will face the next round the British Andy Murray (ATP 243). Former world No. 1 defeated Kimmer Coppejans (ATP 158) in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) on Tuesday in the first round.
USA's Frances Tiafoe (ATP 53) qualified for the second round by defeating German qualifier Yannick Maden (ATP 118) in straight sets 7-6 (9/7), 6-3. He will still have a German opponent in the round of 16: Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 41), seeded N.7.
