MEPs voted at first reading the article of the draft budget law that proposes to reduce by two cents per liter the partial refund of the domestic consumption tax on energy products (TICPE) on diesel fuel enjoyed by the transport sector road.

This tax increase would represent 140 million euros in a full year, depending on the state, and its proceeds should be allocated to the French Infrastructure Financing Agency (AFITF).

"It is legitimate for road transport, which is a major user of the road network, to help maintain our badly needed roads.", said the Minister of the Ecological and Solidarity Transition Elisabeth Borne.

"No consultation was conducted upstream with the road hauliers"said LR MP Marie-Christine Dalloz.

Professional road transport organizations met Wednesday with Secretary of State Jean-Baptiste Djebbari to submit an alternative proposal, without being able to convince him.

"The conclusion is clear: the government remains deaf to the expectations of the sector", they lament in a joint statement. It is now to the parliamentarians that will turn the professionals with, by deadline, the vote of the bill of finance in first reading on November 19 next"on the whole of the draft budget.

"In case of failure, they will decide with their regional representations how to express the anger of the profession", still warn the FNTR, OTRE, TLF, as well as the Unostra and the Chambre Syndicale de la Move, all signatories of the text.

The bosses of road transport had already been received September 19 at the Ministry of Ecological Transition and had indicated that they would formulate an alternative proposal to the increase of 2 cents per liter of diesel, a measure that would undermine their competitiveness according to they.

"The 2020 Finance Bill (PLF 2020) will necessarily increase the taxation of companies in the transport and logistics sector", continue the organizations in their release, arguing for an alternative solution of a"mandatory eco-contribution".

Road transport claims 600,000 jobs and 40,000 companies in France.
