By now, unfortunately, it is becoming the rule and not the exception: a Motegi, the last Yamaha on the starting grid is that of Valentino Rossi, tenth and forced to a difficult recovery from the fourth row. Valentino's considerations start right from the comparison with the other pilots with the M1.
"There are positive and negative aspects in this situation. From a technical point of view, it is good that the Yamaha riders are so fast, because you can study the data, try to understand how to improve. It is an important, stimulating comparison: I believe that the performance of the novice Quartararo pushed everyone to give more. But it is difficult ".
It was another complicated day.
"In the FP4 I did quite well, I was confident for the Q2s, where everyone lowered the times, despite the difficult conditions on the track. Unfortunately I missed tenths to be ahead, in some places I suffered too much".
"On the brakes. Braking is fundamental here, I also tried to change driving style to be more effective, but I wasn't so good. Something must be found on the bike".
How are you getting on?
"Not so bad, surely my potential is higher, even if, as always, there are many of us with a similar rhythm. It will be fundamental to start well".
Are you working for the future?
"Yamaha knows what it needs to do: we need to improve power, without compromising delivery. We need to improve electronics: in this respect, in 2019 we have taken a step forward, thanks also to Italian technicians".
