Lotte Kopecky 10th of the omnium, Kirsten Wild extends her reign in Apeldoorn


Lotte Kopecky placed tenth in the omnium on Friday at the European Track Cycling Championships in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands, defending champion and world champion, won with 116 points, two more than Britain's Laura Kenny, second. Belarusian Tatsiana Sharakova took third place (112 points).

Kopecky started in 11th overall, won by Britain's Laura Kenny. She then finished 12th in the tempo race, which was won by Germany's Gudrun Stock. With a 9th place in the elimination race, won by the Dutch Kirsten Wild, she was in the 10th position before the last event, the points race. Kopecky remained in that position at the end of the final round. She finished with 87 points. Wild had already won the elimination race at Apeldoorn on Thursday.

French Benjamin Thomas has been crowned European champion of the omnium in men. At the end of the four events, the Frenchman, with a total of 173 points, is ahead of the Dane Lasse Norman Hansen (162 pts) and the Briton Oliver Wood (149). Our compatriot Lindsay De Vylder took 8th place with 68 points.
