The MotoGP Safety Commission met emergency today at Phillip Island to decide on what to do in qualifying, then taking the decision not to compete in the qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. It immediately emerged that three of the 22 pilots of the grid had voted in favor of continuing the activity on the track, while all the others opted for the interruption.

Marc Marquez was one of the drivers who voted in favor, as later admitted by the same driver. Along with him, Jack Miller and Johann Zarco, with the latter acknowledging his desire to get on the track, as well as Spanish.

In his speech to the microphones, Andrea Dovizioso accused some pilots of looking only at their own personal interest and not at the common good during the Safety Commission meeting. This statement was not liked at all by Marquez, who did not take long to reply: "In the Safety Commission two subjects were exposed: whether it was possible to drive and the level of risk. It was possible to get on the track, but the risk was high. Tomorrow we have a race and it doesn't make sense to risk a lot. The pilots who went around in groups complained more than those who went around alone. In the group there were more turbulence that could affect the driving ".

Dovizioso's accusation was rather sharp: "I had very little personal interest, I did my job. I had no problem with canceling qualifications, but if tomorrow there is the same wind, what happens? If it is dangerous today, it is tomorrow too. Last year there was no wind on this circuit, but I ended up outside and a trail was generated on Zarco, which fell on me from behind. The wind is most noticeable at the end of the main straight when you exit the grandstand area ".
