It's a surrealistic scene … It happened on one of the most controversial games of the year in Mexico. The Veracruz players did not want to play the championship game against the Monterrey Tigers (3-1).
Once again, the non-payment of wages was central to their demands. Prevented in their attempt by a threatening Federation, they finally remained static on the pitch for four minutes early in the game, in protest.
Gignac scores easily, end of tense match
The time for Andre-Pierre Gignac and Eduardo Vargas to score two goals without opposition. The latter even scored a double in the 7th minute of play, while the party was following its course quite normally.
The match got tougher after Daniel Villalba was sent off in the first half-hour (26th), but the Sharks did not find the means to turn things around, despite a late goal in the second half (90th) . At the final whistle, some Veracruz players refused to shake hands with their opponents.
