This is a case reminiscent of babies born without arms in several rural communes in France. This time, the department of Eure is concerned by several cases of cancer involving children from the same geographical area. An epidemiological survey will be launched by Public Health France after a report made by the mother of a sick child.

"The first step will be to obtain clinical and geographic information on each of the sick children. This step will allow us to confirm the number of children affected, the type of tumor diagnosed, as well as the period and geographic area involved ", reported Thursday the agency Public Health France, interviewed by the Agence Frence-Presse (AFP).

Several months of investigation

"The results of these verifications are essential to determine if the number of cancers in this group is greater than what is usually observed", according to the same source. In such a case, a work to try to identify the causes, including environmental causes, would then be launched.

The organization was seized by the regional health agency (ARS), during the hospitalization of a child treated for cancer. His mother "Had the feeling that other children from the same geographical area were hospitalized in the same ward", said the LRA, Thursday night.

The epidemiological survey, which "Can last up to several months"will have to determine in particular if there are ten cases of pediatric cancers spread over three communes (Igoville, Pont-de-l'Arche, Gouy), as the mother of the family who gave the signal suggests.
