As reported by our colleagues at CNBC, Barclays analysts are convinced of the success of Apple TV +, the streaming service developed by Apple. In a report released Thursday, October 17, experts believe that the VOD platform will seduce 100 million subscribers within one year.
Apple TV + will he quickly catch up with Netflix and its 158 million subscribers?
Analysts support their estimates on the free offer offered by Apple. Determined to compete in an increasingly competitive market, Apple offers one year of free subscription for any new purchase of an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or a MacBook. According to Barclays, Apple will sell 220 million compatible devices with the free offer in the coming year. "We assume that about 50% of device buyers will accept the free subscription, which will represent more than 100 million subscribers in a year" explains the report.
"The trial period will last one year, after which we estimate that the number of subscribers will decrease as users unsubscribe. Of course, the churn rate will depend on how fast Apple will grow its content library. " warns Barclays. At first, the catalog of Apple TV + promises to be much poorer than that of the competition.
Barclays believes the service could match the large subscriber base of Netflix, the current streaming leader. The US VOD service currently has 158 million subscribers worldwide. In the light of Barclays' calculations, Apple could then follow Netflix in the years to come. It all depends on the content produced by Apple and the growth curve of Netflix.
