The Japanese company gave the green light to the development of a new mini SUV based on the DN Trec, whose production will take place in Brazil. To do this, it will make an investment of 250 million dollars and create 300 new jobs in its Sorocaba plant.
This week, Toyota announced an investment of 250 million dollars to produce a new mini SUV in Brazil. It is expected that this new model, which will compete with the Ford EcoSport, Chevrolet Tracker, Volkswagen T-Cross Y Peugeot 2008, among others, be unveiled in a couple of years.
It will be the first vehicle of the company to use the new GA-B platform, which will share with the next generation of the Toyota Yaris. I could use the trade name Rush, already known in the seven-passenger model that is currently marketed in several countries in the region.
The project, which for now is known with the code 740B, must start production in March 2021 in the industrial facilities of Sorocaba. There are manufactured today Toyota Etios Y Yaris.
Some points about the project
As stated before, the design of this new model will be inspired by the Daihatsu DN Trec Concept (in the photos), presented within the framework of the 2017 Tokyo Salon. Derived from this prototype will debut the production model, in the next edition of the Japanese exhibition to be held in October.
It is too early to know technical details, but it is very likely that he inherits the mechanics of the new Corolla. That is, 2.0 liters of 167 horses and 1.8 liter 126 horse hybrid. Input versions with a 1.5-liter 106-horsepower engine, coming from its subcompact range, are not ruled out.
This new project will create 300 new jobs As of next year, there are really few regarding the 800 workers laid off by the firm midway through the year.
