Now, thanks to a pioneer software created worldwide by a team of Spanish developers, doctors can wear mixed reality glasses such as Microsoft HoloLens and, in real time, visualize the medical images of the diagnostic tests -radiographs or resonances, among others- as 3D virtual holograms integrated into the reality of your office or the operating room.

Until relatively recently, the medical world opted for virtual reality both to support the work of doctors and surgeons, as well as for educational purposes. The software of HoloDicom It allows medical professionals to obtain a greater detail of the dimensions and characteristics of the affected area, as well as to extract medical data in real time through a faster, easier to use and effective process. But, in addition, you can project anatomical planes on the patient, segment, rotate or scale the images to adjust their location and dimensions according to the body and needs of each patient. The hologram and parameters are updated in real time based on the doctor's actions.

In the surgical field, for example, this means that the surgeon can visualize the scan inside the patient's body, superimposed on the real body, increasing accuracy and reducing risks during the intervention. The operation is also less invasive and results in improved patient recovery times. Thanks to this, the patient can also better understand what is happening to him and how the medical process will be subjected to, helping him to make better decisions at all times.

“Our system also contributes to the sector from the training point of view. And it is that, in a dynamic way, it helps the centers and hospitals in the transfer of knowledge. HoloDicom It allows an instructor with full control of the interface to show a wider audience the interaction with the hologram, as well as all the functionalities and movements of the anatomical planes in real time. The images offered can be projected on a standard monitor or on another HoloLens set and at the same time, it allows recording notes to clarify the audience, ”explains Ruiz.
