Puerto Rico was the first after beating Tunisia in a strenuous match that was decided in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. The Puerto Ricans advanced to the second round of the Basketball World Cup with a 67-64 victory over Tunisia.
A basket of three by Gary Browne at 5.1 seconds from the end crowned a 15-4 attack to close the match, which decided second place in the second round for Group C in Guangzhou, China. The victory ensures that Puerto Rico (2-1) will have its best World Cup since at least that of 2002.
Browne let the seconds run, finished a breakthrough and hit the basket that gave him his first and only advantage in the fourth period. Renaldo Balkman led Puerto Rico with 14 points and David Huertas – who had a basket of three in transition to tie the shares at 1:37 in the end, closed with 10.
However, the Puerto Ricans were not the only ones, the Dominican Republic has already secured its pass to the second round after two consecutive victories in the first round. For its part, Venezuela managed to defeat the local China in a field with the public completely against it. While Argentina defeated Russia and finished the first round unbeaten.

In Bejing, Venezuela eliminated the hosts and advanced to the second round by Group A.
Heissler Guillent scored 16 points for Venezuelans Venezuela (2-1), while Fang Shuo led China (1-2) with 13 points.
ARGENTINA 69, RUSSIA 61
In Wuhan, Argentina beat Russia to finish 3-0 in Group B.
Facundo Campazzo had a game of 21 points, six rebounds and seven assists for the Argentines, while Marcos Delia and Luis Scola scored 13 each.
Andrey Zubkov scored 18 and Nikita Kurbanov 13 for Russia (2-1), who plays with Poland on Friday in the second round.
SERBIA 92, ITALY 77
In Foshan, Bogdan Bogdanovic finished with 31 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead the powerful Serbia to close 3-0 in Group D.
Nikola Jokic scored 15 points for the Serbs, who outperformed their rivals in the group by a total of 120 points.
Danilo Gallinari scored 26 points for Italy (2-1) and Marco Belinelli 15. The Italians are measured with Spain on Friday in the second round.
SPAIN 73, IRAN 65
In Guangzhou, Spain ended the match with a 16-3 attack to win over Iran.
Spain (3-0 in Group C) was led by Marc Gasol with 16 points, while Juan Hernangómez had 11 and 10 rebounds Victor Claver 10 points.
Mohammad Jamshidijafarabadi scored 16 for Iran (0-3) and Hamed Haddadi finished with 10 points, 15 rebounds and six assists.
POLAND 80, IVORY COAST 63
In Beijing, Poland finished undefeated in Group A with its victory over the Ivorians, thanks to 16 points from Adam Waczynski.
Ivory Coast (0-3) had 23 points from Charles Abouo.
ANGOLA 84, PHILIPPINES 81, (Extra time)
In Foshan, Angola took its first victory in this World Cup despite wasting a 12-point lead towards the end.
Valdelicio Joaquim scored 20 points and Yanick Moreira had 12 and 15 rebounds for Angola (1-2 in Group D). Andray Blatche led the Filipinos (0-3) with 23 points.
NIGERIA 108, SOUTH KOREA 66
In Wuhan, Nigeria avoided leaving without victories in Group B by beating South Korea.
Michael Eric scored 17 and Ike Diogu 16 for Nigeria (1-2). Guna Ra scored 18 for South Korea (0-3).
