Chace Numata, mask of the Detroit Tigers, died Monday, September 2 as a result of an accident while playing with a skateboard last week, he was 27 years old.
A police report reported that Numata had been found in the early hours of Friday, August 31 in the heart of Pennsylvania with his head bleeding and was immediately taken to a hospital.
A surveillance video showed that Numata was traveling around 2:00 a.m. when his skateboard suddenly stopped and fell forward, Erie police sergeant David Stucke told the Detroit Free Press.
"It seems he fell on the skateboard and landed headlong on the ground," Stucke said. “I think he was unconscious as soon as he fell. He was knocked out. "
Numata in the 2019 season had played 77 challenges in which he left an average of .244 offensive average with 4 homers and 28 RBIs.
"The Erie SeaWolves are heartbroken and deeply sad about the death of Chace Numata," SeaWolves owner Fernando Aguirre said in a statement.
