Juarez City- With an investment of 4 billion dollars, and the generation of 1,200 jobs, VVC Exploration Corporation announced in Canada the opening of Gloria, the first mine in the Samalayuca Cobre S.A. mining unit. of C.V., which will be exploited in the Juarense desert.

"It is a fact that will be exploited and work could begin shortly," Samalayuca sectional president Javier Meléndez Cardona said yesterday from Montreal, Canada, after meeting with foreign investors.

He said that "investors of Canadian and American origin were pleased with the progress in government procedures to establish in Samalayuca a company that requires the investment of 4 billion US dollars" and which will maintain "environmental type locks."

For its part, the VVC company presents Gloria on its official website as its focus project whose construction of the installation is expected to take six to nine months late.

“Gloria, a copper project in northern Mexico, is the main property and current focus of VVC. Gloria hosts copper oxide mineralization with a copper resource of 59.4 million pounds, indicated (9.6 M tons with 0.28% Cu) and 89.33 million pounds, inferred (14.4M tons with 0.28% Cu) ”, announces the Canadian company over the mine located about 53 kilometers from Ciudad Juarez.

In the main description of the project, the foreign company informs that in the last two years the drilling has defined an important copper mineralized zone in a strike length of 15 kilometers, with resources in only part of the sector.

After having received the Environmental Permit and a Land Use Change Permit, the VVC announced that “the Board of Directors (BOD) has given its approval for the beginning of a pilot mine in the Glory zones of Kaity Claim (Gloria, Gloria Extension, Gloria East and Gloria NW) in their Copper Project of Northern Mexico ”.

“The decision of the Board represents a logical result of our successful efforts to confirm the size of the resource and receive the regulatory approvals necessary to begin working on the site. Both represent years of hard work and patient effort by our administration and operations team based in Mexico, ”says Terrence Martell, president of VVC Exploration, in a press release.

The plan provides for the extraction of copper oxide resources through an open-air process, the processing of leaching in batteries (solvent extraction) of the ore and the recovery of copper through an on-site electrodeposition installation, known as SX processing -EW, he explained.

The plant to be built will have an initial capacity to process approximately 2,000 tons per day of mineralized material, increasing to 4,000 tons per day approximately 12 months after commissioning.

According to the sectional president of Samalayuca, land use permits were granted by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), thanks to the fact that the ejido Ojo de la Casa promoted and won an amparo trial.

He said that the trial was promoted after a federal judge determined that the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas had violated the property rights of 53 ejidatarios by not consulting them about the fate of their lands and issuing through the President of the Republic a decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 5, 2009, in which ecological reserve was decreed to Samalayuca in more than 63 thousand hectares of the desert.

Environmental counties

Meléndez Cardona also stressed that the start of work will begin with “some environmental type locks,” among which is the restriction to use cyanide.

"Instead of cyanide, sulfuric acid will be used in 3 percent, within a solution of water, this for the leaching of metals."

The second padlock is that they will be recycling the water and the amount they will use will be "the equivalent of what an Olympic pool grabs (approximately 2,500 cubic meters of water), per month."

The third restriction is that "there will be no more than 4 percent of surface excavations that comprise the mining concession."

The fourth padlock in the mine that will be exploited in the open is that they will not be able to open a pit until they have covered the other and have planted the flora of the place, that is, “until they have made mitigation measures”.

Nor can work in the Samalayuca petrogravure area, which is within the mining concession, but will not be exploited.

In sixth place is that the area will not be sold, but rented by the ejidatarios.

"The surface of the mining connection is about 1,200 hectares, but they will not work at all, they will start working on 300 hectares," said Meléndez Cardona.

He explained that since it is a mining unit, in Samalayuca the whole process will be carried out, which will consist of the exploitation of the mine, the separation of the ore and from here the copper ingots will be sent.

Samalayuca Copper will generate taxes that will go to the mining fund, from which 50 percent, according to the law, must remain in the place of origin where the environmental impact is.
