<p style="margin-right:0in; margin-left:0in">The women&#39;s national team won its biggest game of the year on Friday to complete a perfect run and win the gold medal at the Parapan Am Games in Lima, Peru.

"At the beginning of the season, we had a meeting with the players and we had the goal of winning that game. It's a big win for us, "said coach Marc-Antoine Ducharme after the game.

The Canadian squad, which includes Elodie Tessier, Cindy Ouellet, Sandrine Bérubé and Maude Jacques, showed their character in the final by coming back from behind twice.

In deficit 16-11 after the first quarter, they managed to score 20 points in the second table to retreat to the locker room with a deficit of only one point at the half. The same scenario occurred in the fourth quarter, as the representatives of the Maple Leaf took the baskets repeatedly to slip to a 67-64 victory.

"The girls responded well today (Friday). Our defense was effective, but the Americans managed all their shots early in the game. On the other hand, we knew that if we continued our work, they would eventually fail. That's what happened and we took advantage of their release to take control and establish our attack, "continued Ducharme.

So with the gold medal, an Olympic qualification and the sense of accomplishment that the players of the national team will return home early next week.

"We have achieved all our goals and I am proud of my players. It was important for us to play this final, because we will not have other games with such a big issue here in Tokyo. They have done a great performance and that's encouraging for the coming year, "concluded Ducharme.
