Jesus Herrada, stuck in the wheel of Dylan Teuns (Bahrain Merida), had grinned in the final climb of the 6th stage, meaning to the Belgian that he could not take over. Teuns then tried to go to the end, but could not follow when the Spaniard Cofidis attacked a few hundred meters from the finish. The sixth stage of the Vuelta, between Mora de Rubielos and Ares del Maestrat (199 km), was marked by mark abandonments.
